Hello! My name is Sydney Hamilton. I’m originally from Omaha, NE, but I moved to Des Moines, IA to pursue my undergraduate degree at Drake University. In May 2023, I graduated with a B.A.J.M.C in Public Relations and Multimedia Journalism with an LGBTQ+ studies concentration.
Recently, I moved to Chicago, IL, and am currently looking for work in public relations, communications, or digital media. I would love to utilize my skills for effective communication with my passion for human rights and the LGBTQ community in my next role.
My love for journalism began in high school when I joined my high school newspaper staff and worked my way up to Editor-in-Chief my senior year.
At Drake, I found a love for public relations and the importance of social media in developing a strong brand identity.
Social media is an integral part of how journalism is adapting to today’s society, and I hope to continue to be a part of a team that uses social media to build community.
At Drake, I was involved in student organizations like the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). I also interned at Delta Dental of Iowa and Strategic Elements.
After graduation, I worked full-time as a Digital Coordinator for Strategic Elements. In my role, I developed social media content for the company and various clients and assisted with advertising campaigns and reports. I also wrote the company’s monthly social media updates newsletter, Strategic Shifts. Additionally, I compiled monthly reports that analyzed company competitors, social metrics, and platform trends and updates.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, reading, crocheting and playing card/board games with my friends. Most recently I read Normal People by Sally Rooney and I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy.
I have a calico cat named Callie who keeps me sane yet drives me crazy. Despite the unnecessary amount of toys I buy for her, her favorite items to play with are hair ties and plastic bags.
